NEWS RELEASE: 20th December 2018
DRAGONS’ DEN SUCCESS TO EXPAND RANGE OF SWING DANCE CLASSES IN BRIGHTON
- After a few initial months, Swing Patrol will expand their range of fun, friendly swing dance classes in 2018.
- After opening in September 2017, Swing Patrol is set to expand its range of classes in 2018, offering a Blues night and social dancing, on top of the fun and friendly classes they already run. Suitable for absolute beginners, the classes teach vintage dances such as the Lindy Hop, Charleston and, from February, Blues.
Known for their relaxed and friendly teaching style, Swing Patrol teachers make learning to dance accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender or experience. Their aim is to teach great technique hand-in-hand with the joy of the dance.
Classes take place at four venues across the city, re-opening in January 2018 after a Christmas break. New and existing dancers will be able to join the weekly drop in classes for just £7.
Revolution Bar – Mondays 7pm (opens 8th January)
Richmond Bar Blues – Tuesdays (opens 6th February)
Middle Street Primary School – Thursdays 7:30pm (opens 18th January)
The King and Queen – Sundays 1.30pm (opens 7th January)
Swing at the Latest Music Bar – Friday 12th January
Swing Patrol’s director and celebrated dance teacher, Scott Cupit, runs many of the classes himself alongside senior teacher Faraday Loughlin and a team of experienced teachers, with dancers Connie Benjamin and Tim Crawford joining the team in 2018. He said: “Our mission is to share the most joyful dance in the world with as many people as we can, which is why we were so excited to be invited to start classes in Brighton. We want to build a really great, inclusive community of dancers. “
At a Swing Patrol class, students can expect a relaxed, inclusive and sociable atmosphere. Classes start with the basics every week so anyone can join at any time and participants swap partners throughout the lesson so there’s no need to bring a partner. By the end of a class, students have the basic steps and moves to get them dancing socially and, importantly, will have met some new people along the way.
Cupit continued: “At the heart of Swing Dancing is the community that forms around it. Students that come to our lessons and events not only learn to dance but forge lasting friendships. It’s that inclusive and friendly community that makes attending our social events so special. A few years ago we broke the record for the World’s Largest Charleston, which really gives you a sense of the community we have built”.
